HEATH SCORES FOR U.S. IN 3-1 WIN
HALMSTAD, Sweden--New York Fury forward Tobin Heath scored in the 54th minute to cap the U.S. Women’s National Team’s 3-1 victory over Sweden Saturday at Orjans Vall Stadium.
Heath, who entered the game at the start of the second half, got between two defenders and leaped to nod Abby Wambach’s service down past Swedish goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl to give the U.S. a 3-1 lead.
Wambach opened the scoring with a spectacular 40-yard half-volley in the eighth minute. Alex Morgan made the score 2-0 in the 22nd, running onto a service from Shannon Boxx and forcing a defender off the ball before burying her 15th goal of the year.
Lotta Schelin pulled one back for Sweden in the 35th, slotting a shot over goalkeeper Hope Solo with the outside of her foot.
